The role of yoga and psychology in chronic pain: Yoga Australia 2014 AGM

Yoga Australia will be holding their Annual General Meeting in Western Australia for the first time on Sunday November 30 2014. Rachael West will speak alongside psychologist and co-founder of The Yoga Space, Rob Schutze, on the application of yoga for chronic pain.  Rob was awarded the 2007 Australian Psychological Society Prize for his research into Mindfulness and chronic pain and is now a PhD candidate at Curtin University. Together we will discuss:

  • The physiology of pain and how chronic pain differs from acute pain
  • Presenting behaviours
  • Research and case studies as evidence for yoga and pain
  • Knowing the bounds of our expertise as practitioners
  • Practical tips and cautions for working with people experiencing pain
  • The role of the 8 limbs of yoga in cultivating a new sense of self in the face of pain
